Introduction

Kurun Niaga adalah studi tentang sejarah perniagaan di Solok, Sumatera Barat, yang diinisiasi oleh Komunitas Gubuak Kopi pada tahun 2019. Studi ini melibatkan partisipan dari beragam disiplin untuk membaca kembali arsip-arsip, baik itu berupa arsip fisik, ingatan, serta narasi yang berkembang di kalangan warga. Pembacaan ini dipresentasikan dalam medium seni, buku, dan perisitiwa seni.

Pada tahun 2019, Proyek Kurun Niaga, yang bertajuk “Kala Negeri Dikelola Pemodal" berfokus pada pemetaan awal mengenai aktivitas perniagaan dan kolonialisasi awal di Solok secara khusus dan Sumatera Barat secara umum. Membaca bagaimana perkembangan jalur perdagangan di barat Sumatera yang memungkinan interaksi dengan bangsa luar, silang kebudayaan, kolinialisasi, munculnya pusat-pusat baru dan perubahan cara pandang sosial. Tahun ini, Komunitas Gubuak Kopi melibatkan sejumlah partisipan yang merupakan praktisi seni untuk melakukan retrospeksi terhadap teks dan kajian sebelumnya melalui aktivitas membuat sketsa. Secara performatif para partisipan melakukan skesta di lapangan mengkritisi tradisi lukis mooi indie, medokumentasikan serta merefleksi kontur alam Solok dalam layer-layer perniagaan, ekploitasi alam, dan invansi teknologi modern. Para partisipan terdiri dari anak muda Solok, dan luar Solok. Saling berbagi pandangan dan impresi terhadap lanksap Solok hari ini sebagai bagian dari perjalanan panjang peristiwa di dalamnya. Mengembangkan kemungkinan praktik ini sebagai metode mempelajari aspek geografis, sosiologis, dan antorpologis dalam produksi pengetahuan. Bagaimana bekal bagasi pengetahuan dan pengalaman visual mempengaruhi bingkaian garis-garis pada sketsa.

Albert Rahman Putra (b. Solok, 1991), or Albert, is a curator, writer, and collective activist. He is founder of Gubuak Kopi Community. His first book "Sore Kelabu di Selatan Singkarak" was published by Forum Lenteng in 2018. He is the manager of Orkes Taman Bunga music group and the artistic board of Rumah Tamera - Solok Creative Hub. He is interested in environment studies, history, music, and media activity.
Anggraeni Widhiasih

Anggraeni Widhiasih, or Anggra, is member of Forum Lenteng and part of the International Competition selection team of ARKIPEL- Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival since 2019. She graduated from International Relations of Paramadina University and has been participating in the platform of audiovisual study named Milisifilem. Aside from that, she is also part of Prakerti Collective Intelligence.
Biahlil Badri

M. Biahlil Badri (1996) is a writer who are interested in cultural issue, history, and environment. He is one of the founders of Rumah Tamera – Solok Creative Hub; a space for collaboration of artists and creative activists in Solok and West Sumatera. He is also one of the members of Gubuak Kopi. Currently, he is actively managing @solokmilikwarega account, an archiving method via Instagram. He is also a drummer of Rumah Tamera band project named PAPAN IKLAN.
Biki Wabihamdika

Biki wabihamdika (Tanggerang, 1996) lives in Gantuang Ciri, Solok Regency. He graduates from Karawitan Art study of the Indonesia Institute of The Arts of Padangpanjang. He is a composer and recently he starts focusing on the soundscape. Apart from doing music projects, he is actively involved in Gubuak Kopi Community. Previously, Biki was also active in several music groups such as Etnic Percution Padangpanjang, Bangkang Baraka, and Autotune production. Besides that, he was also involved in a bi-weekly discussion called Otarabumalam. He is also a collaborator of Kurun Niaga Project 2019.
Boy Nistil

Boynistil (Solok) or Da Boy is an autodidact artist and part of K13, a community in Solok that focuses on the fine art. He is actively drawing, making murals and some crafts. He is also the vocalist of a band called Project Tiga Dua. Aside from that, he is actively following the dynamic of fine art in West Sumatera. A month ago, he participated in Tenggara Street Art Festival by drawing mural at Kodim 0309 Solok.
Dika Adrian

Dika Adrian, usually called Badik, is a fine art student of Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP). He has been involved in some fine art events on West Sumatera. He is the bassist of PAPAN IKLAN, a band project on Rumah Tamera. He also owns a clothing brand called BDX Clothing that actively produce merchandise such as shoes and t-shirts that he paints.
Teguh Wahyundri

Teguh Wahyundri (Solok City, 1996) graduates from Visual Communication Design of Universitas Negeri Padang. Currently he focuses his activity and study in Gubuak kopi. Since the past few years, he has been actively producing artworks. In 2018, he participated in Pekan Raya Visual at Taman Budaya, West Sumatra. In 2019, he participated a sticker exhibition titled "LEM IN AJA" in Rumah Ragam, Padang. In the same year, he participated in an exhibition in Naluri Coffee Shop. His final assignment or thesis exhibition was held on in the gallery of the Faculty of Language and Art in Universitas Negeri Padang.
Verdian Rayner

Verdian Rayner or Dian graduated from the Indonesia Institute of The Arts of Padangpanjang. Aside from busy with his street food booth, he is currently active in making some murals, drawings, custom paints, pin striping, and production of visual crafts. He is also a vocalist on some underground bands, one of them is Blindside. He is also interested in customised motorcycle. He was involved as a selected participant in Solok Mural Competition (2019) and Silek Art Festival (2018). In 2020, he held a solo showcase at Tamera showcase Program, Rumah Tamera – Solok Creative Hub.
Volta Ahmad Jonneva

Volta Ahmad Jonneva (Kinari,1995) graduated from Fine Art study, Faculty of Language and Art of Universitas Negeri Padang. He is the director of Rumah Tamera – Solok Creative Hub; a space for collaboration of young artists in West Sumatera. He has been active as one of Gubuak Kopi members since 2015. He is one of the founders of Layar Kampus, an initiative space for alternative cinema in the campus. In 2018, he was involved as part of curatorial team on “Kultursinema” exhibition, ARKIPEL– Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival. In 2019, he is the curator of a sticker exhibition named “Lem In Aja”, organized with Rumah Ragam in Padang City. He is one of the participants in Milisifilem program of Forum Lenteng, Jakarta.
